San Clemente’s Newest Restaurant – Jacobi’s on the alley

My husband took me out to dinner last night and I was in the mood to try something new. I remembered reading an article about a new spot in San Clemente that was being opened by the ex-executive chef at Sundried Tomato (one of my faves in town) but couldn’t quite remember where to find it. I did a quick search on the OC Register and found the link to the article I had previously read.

The place is Jacobi’s on the Alley. That’s where we had a fabulous dinner last night. It was dark when we got there and the lights outside looked inviting. I really liked the ambiance when we walked in to the place. There was a nice mix of old and new in the décor. From the tin roof to the distressed wood floors and an array of candles through out, it looked like a place I would like to hang out.

The one thing that struck me as odd was we were brought menus and told to go order our food at the counter. I hope this is temporary until they get things off the ground. One more mentionable, they are still waiting on their liquor license so you can BYOB for now.

Our server was very friendly and had great recommendations of menu options. We ended up ordering two of the recommended items: pasilla pepper appetizer and the Napa burger. We also got a side of mac and cheese because I love mac and cheese (not from the box).

The appetizer: Pasilla chili pepper with a chipotle aioli

This was delightful to my taste buds.   The only disappointment was the small size and quantity. For $8 bucks, it would be nice to have more than four bites of this delicious treat. I think they should serve two.

Main dish: Napa Burger

I can’t remember everything that was in this burger, but I can tell you it was tasty!  I remember our server saying that they use organic beef. Maybe that had something to do with it being so yummy or maybe it was all the other fixings. Definitely recommend you try this. It was served with a cold pasta salad that was very refreshing.

Side dish: Mac and cheese

Ok, I think I died and went to heaven on this one. It was rich and creamy and absolutely divine! I think this just took them number one spot in my mac and cheese favorite’s list (Sundried tomato and Opah’s are my other faves).

I give this place a thumbs up. The atmosphere was inviting, the food was amazing and the staff were all great and the prices are fair. They should be announcing their grand opening soon and you should definitely give them a try. Your taste buds will thank you.

Let me know how YOU liked it after you pay them a visit.
